Another AFL record set as GWS demolish Brisbane in stunning third quarter
Scott Pendlebury isn’t the only record-breaker this weekend, after GWS produced a stunning third quarter against Brisbane to write themselves into the history books.
A week on from a shocking loss against West Coast, the Giants have caused an upset of their own, demolishing the back-to-back premiers, 26.10 (166) to 13.10 (88).
But it was a third-quarter surge that has got the football world talking, after the Giants piled on 14 goals to put together an 86-point quarter against a helpless Lions side, a competition record.
Captain Toby Greene did most of the damage, kicking four of his five goals in the third, while Jake Stringer also joined in on the party, kicking three of his five goals in the same quarter.

The Lions, meanwhile, only managed a paltry three points, as they went from trailing by just six points at halftime to being in an 89-point hole ahead of the final quarter.

It marks a horrid run of form for the defending premiers, who have now lost their last 10 quarters by a combined 146 points.
Things are unlikely to get easier either, with just a six-day turnaround before they take on a red-hot Fremantle side, who sit clear on top of the ladder thanks to a 10-game winning streak.
On the other hand, the Giants pick up a much-needed four points and percentage boost, moving up to 12th on the ladder.
