Anthony Edwards had zero sympathy for Victor Wembanyama after one controversial thing — here’s why

Victor Wembanyama is now in the Western Conference Finals against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, with the Spurs trailing 2-1 after Friday’s Game 3 loss. Before he got there, he had to get through the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round, and that series had a moment nobody saw coming.

With the Spurs holding a 2-1 series lead heading into Game 4 on May 10, Wembanyama had just come off a 39-point, 13-of-18 shooting demolition in Game 3.

Early in the second quarter of Game 4, he was ejected after receiving a Flagrant 2 foul for hitting Naz Reid in the jaw and neck. It was the first ejection of Wembanyama’s career. He even had to ask veteran teammate Harrison Barnes what a Flagrant 2 meant before walking into the tunnel.

And that time, his rival Anthony Edwards was dancing inside and wishing for something unimaginable. The most surprising part? Ant just revealed his inner chaos by sharing what he was praying after Wemby got ejected.

Days after Wembanyama’s ejection, a clip shared by Underdog NBA showed exactly how Anthony Edwards processed the moment. He did not sugarcoat his excitement.

«I was so happy he got kicked out,» Edwards said. «I hope they suspend him. Shit, I’m finna email they ass right now. Hey man, y’all gotta go review buddy.»

His reaction made sense from every angle. The 22-year-old was Minnesota’s biggest hurdle in the series. He finished third in MVP voting behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic, and he had already set a playoff record with 12 blocks in Game 1. Losing him gave the Timberwolves a massive advantage and the Wolves capitalized it.

Edwards scored 36 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter, to carry Minnesota to a 114-109 win, tying the series 2-2. «We’ve got to capitalize when Wemby got thrown out of the game,» Edwards told NBC following the game, per Yahoo. «I just had to take it upon myself to try to get us the win.»

The league, however, did not suspend Wembanyama and the Spurs closed out Minnesota in six games anyway.
