In-demand Warriors halfback Tanah Boyd makes contract decision
The New Zealand Warriors have moved to secure one of the form halfbacks of the 2026 NRL season, with Tanah Boyd agreeing to a new long-term deal that will keep him at the club until the end of 2029.

Boyd had already been contracted through to the end of 2026, however the Warriors have now locked the 25-year-old in for an additional three seasons after his impressive start to life in Auckland.
The halfback has played a major role in the Warriors’ rise this season, helping guide the club to seven wins from their opening nine matches and cementing himself as one of the key reasons behind their strong ladder position.
Boyd’s attacking numbers have also highlighted his influence on the side, with the playmaker producing 11 try assists, eight line break assists and 24 total try involvements so far this season.

His form has left coach Andrew Webster with little option but to continue backing him in the No.7 jersey, even following the return of highly-rated playmaker Luke Metcalf from a long-term knee injury.

That has created an intriguing selection dilemma at the Warriors, with Metcalf initially returning at five-eighth before later spending an entire second half on the interchange bench during the club’s win over Parramatta.

Metcalf had been one of the NRL’s breakout stars before his injury setback last season, even leading the Dally M Medal voting at one stage, making his current role uncertainty a significant storyline to monitor moving forward.
Reports suggest discussions surrounding Metcalf’s future are expected in coming weeks, with expansion clubs Perth and PNG likely to keep a close eye on the situation should he become available.
For now though, the focus at the Warriors is firmly on Boyd’s emergence as a genuine long-term organising halfback option, with the club rewarding his consistency and leadership in a season many expected the Warriors could struggle in following Metcalf’s injury status to begin 2026.
The re-signing is another significant retention win for the Warriors as they continue building stability within their roster under Andrew Webster, who has continued to build a hardworking squad that has competed with every NRL team despite several setbacks.
If Boyd can continue the form he has started 2026 with, retaining him could prove a major coup for the Warriors both now and for many seasons to come.
