According to Tribuna, which cited Similarweb traffic data, nearly half of all visits were concentrated among three operators, Betway, YesPlay, and Hollywoodbets. Together, they accounted for about 50% of total activity.
Betway led the quarter with 94 million visits, representing close to one‑quarter of all traffic nationwide. YesPlay followed with 53 million visits, while Hollywoodbets drew 46 million. The report also noted that South Africa averaged around 126 million visits per month during the first quarter, with mobile users driving most of the engagement.

Betway’s monthly visits more than doubled, climbing from 21.9 million in January 2024 to 46 million by December 2025. Hollywoodbets also grew, rising from 20.4 million to 24.5 million visits in the same period. YesPlay, though smaller, recorded the sharpest increase, jumping from just 380,000 visits to 2.7 million.
Local media reports, citing consumer spending data, noted that sports betting has become one of the fastest‑growing digital entertainment sectors in the country.
This rapid growth has fueled debate around advertising exposure, regulation, and responsible gambling. Regulators have responded with tougher oversight, introducing new compliance checks and verification systems aimed at curbing illegal operators and strengthening consumer protections.
