AJ Brimson’s long association with the Gold Coast Titans could be approaching an unexpected end after the club granted the former Queensland representative permission to speak with rival NRL teams acccording to CODE Sports.

Despite being contracted through until the end of 2030, Brimson is now free to investigate opportunities elsewhere following discussions between his management and the Titans.

The development is a stunning one considering Brimson has spent his entire NRL career on the Gold Coast and remains one of the club’s highest-profile players.

However, his position within the Titans side has changed considerably following the emergence of Keano Kini as the club’s long-term option at fullback.

Brimson has predominantly found himself playing in the centres this season, despite having spent much of his career at fullback and still holding ambitions of wearing the No.1 jersey regularly.

The presence of Kini and Jayden Campbell, who have both secured their futures on long-term contracts, has created a significant squeeze in a Titans spine overflowing with attacking talent.

New Gold Coast coach Josh Hannay confirmed Brimson’s management initiated discussions about exploring the market and the club agreed to allow him to assess what opportunities may be available.

Hannay stressed there was no breakdown in the relationship between Brimson and the Titans, with both parties believing exploring his options could potentially benefit everyone involved.

A departure would also provide Gold Coast with considerable flexibility as Hannay continues reshaping the roster, with Brimson reportedly earning around $900,000 per season on a contract that still has four years remaining.

The 27-year-old would almost certainly attract significant interest if he becomes genuinely available, given his ability to play fullback, five-eighth and centre as well as his experience representing Queensland at State of Origin level.

Expansion clubs Perth Bears and PNG Chiefs loom as obvious potential destinations given their ongoing recruitment drives, although Brimson’s availability could bring several established NRL clubs into the conversation.

Brimson has played more than 150 games for the Titans since making his debut in 2018 and produced one of his strongest seasons in 2025, crossing for 12 tries in 23 appearances.
