France enters the match as one of the premier favorites remaining despite a few tough matches to open the knockout stage of the tournament. After winning their group, the 2018 champions cruised through Sweden in the Round of 32 but had to survive a physical Paraguay team to win in the Round of 16.
Star forward Kylian Mbappe is once again leading the way, as his seven goals are tied for the second most in the 2026 tournament behind just Lionel Messi. However, Mbappe isn’t the only France star performing well, as Ousmane Dembele has four goals while Michael Olise leads all players with five assists.
In order for France to make it to a third-straight semifinal round, the team will have to go through Morocco in a rematch of the 2022 semifinal, a match that France won 2-0.
Morocco finished second in its group during the group stage portion of the tournament, but followed that up with two impressive wins. First, Morocco survived the Netherlands in a penalty kick shootout, then the team controlled a match against Canada with a 3-0 win.
Morocco’s team is well balanced and led by Ismael Saibari, whose three goals lead the team thus far, while Azzedine Ounahi and Soufiane Rahimi have two goals a piece. Meanwhile, Brahim Diaz’s four assists are the most on the team and just one assist shy of Olise’s tournament high.
The winner of this match will secure a spot in the semifinal round and play either Spain or Belgium in Dallas on Tuesday, while the loser will go home after another World Cup appearance.

11 a.m.: One other storyline to watch heading into this match is that France star Michael Olise was not granted an appeal of his yellow card. FIFA elected not to rescind the yellow card given to Olise against Paraguay in the Round of 16, which means if he picks up a yellow against Morocco, he will be automatically suspended for the semifinal. France surely would appeal the ruling, much like the USMNT did with Folarin Balogun’s red card, which resulted in the suspension being controversially retracted.
10:30 a.m.: Bad news for Morocco early Thursday morning, as the team announced that leading goalscorer Ismael Saibari will not be available against France. The star forward left the Round of 16 win over Canada with a hamstring injury and will be unable to play on Thursday. Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi said that Saibari is «not out for the rest of the tournament»; however, he needs to hope his team comes through against France. Saibari leads the team wtih three goals in five matches.
10 a.m.: The quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup are here, and first up is France vs. Morocco in Boston. Kylian Mbappe and Les Bleus are looking to keep rolling, having won every game so far at the competition. Meanwhile, the Atlas Lions’ lone blemish so far has been a draw against Brazil in group play.
