‘Show some balls’ — Laurie Daley slams journalists after famous NSW Origin victory

Triumphant NSW Origin coach Laurie Daley has slammed journalists after their coverage following the Blues’ loss in Origin 2.

Daley had the last laugh as underdog NSW clinched the Origin series with a famous 44-24 win over Queensland at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.

Criticism was flung at Daley after the Blues were thrashed 30-12 by the Maroons in Origin 2 at the MCG, with his coaching methods and demeanour questioned by multiple journalists and outlets.

Daley chose his post-match press conference to strike back at some of the media’s reporting, labelling it ‘unnecessary’ and containing ‘hidden agendas’.

“It wasn’t about the last laugh,” Daley said.

“It was just about these blokes playing the best they possibly could. And in particular when people have a crack when they don’t even come to a training session, they won’t front up to press conferences. Show some balls. Where are they now?”

Daley added: “I just think it was unnecessary. I think there were hidden agendas.

“Sometimes things are planted in the media too, so I’d love to know where that came from and you know how it all works.

“But when you’ve put a lot into a game and put a lot into trying to be the person you are, and people attack you from an angle that you go, ‘Wow’…. anyway, that’s probably my rant. But I hope it never happens to you one day.”
