Zlatan Ibrahimovic uses Lionel Messi’s missed PK to dunk on Alexi Lalas

Zlatan Ibrahimovic didn’t pass up a chance to dunk on Alexi Lalas.

As part of the Fox postgame crew on Tuesday, the legendary Swedish striker used Lionel Messi’s saved penalty kick against Egypt (during Argentina’s wild comeback win) to make a silly point.

The panel includes three former players: Ibrahimovic, Lalas and Thierry Henry.

Ibrahimovic was one of the world’s best strikers for a number of different clubs. Henry is also a legendary attacker who represented France at multiple World Cups.

Lalas was a hard-working defender in the earlier days of the United States men’s national team.

Zlatan was happy to point out that two of the three men on the panel knew what it was like to take, and miss, a penalty.

«Everyone misses PKs,» Ibrahimovic began. «I’ve missed PKs. Thierry has missed PKs.»

Then the zinger: «Alexi was never asked to take PKs so he couldn’t miss.»

Yeah, Zlatan had that one ready. 

Their feud throughout the World Cup has made for entertaining television, even if it has slightly turned the desk into a sideshow at times rather than solely focusing on the brilliance of this tournament.

Still, Zlatan is going to be Zlatan. That’s what Fox knew when they brought him aboard.

He’s also right: There’s no record of Lalas ever attempting a penalty for club or country.

Ibrahimovic made 87 and missed 17 in his career.

Henry made 28 and missed 8.

This won’t be the last time Ibrahimovic messes with Lalas before the World Cup is through.
