Why USA, England aren’t playing on the 4th of July in the World Cup

The Fourth of July is here. USA-England is not.

What gives?

Well, that viral rumor that everyone saw about the United States and England being able to meet at the World Cup on July 4 hasn’t come true.

That’s because it never could have happened.

Why aren’t USA and England playing on 4th of July in World Cup?

Simply put: The bracket didn’t actually allow for this.

No matter which places the U.S. and England finished in their respective groups, there was no combination that would’ve put them on the same matchup lines for the Fourth of July.

It’s the Round of 16 this weekend, and England plays Mexico on Sunday.

On Monday night, the U.S. hosts Belgium in Seattle.

They were never going to play in this round, no matter how much engagement the posts about it got.

When can the USA play England in the World Cup?

They cannot meet until the World Cup Final.

They’re on totally opposite sides of the bracket. If the colonial foes want to meet in this tournament, it’ll be for the trophy.
