June’s GGR in Macau Slips 12.1%
The overall gross gaming revenue of casinos in Macau witnessed a fall of 12.1% from a year earlier to MOP18.52 billion ($2.29 billion) during June, according to the data released on Wednesday by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau of the city. This figure is 18.1% less than that of May, which was MOP22.61 billion.

Monthly Performance Softens
The June result added another softer month to Macau’s gaming run this year. In aggregate for the first six months, the city’s GGR totalled MOP126.90 billion, an increase of 6.8% over the comparable period last year.
This decrease month-over-month resulted in an essentially flat performance for the second quarter in comparison with the corresponding quarter last year. In particular, casino GGR dropped by 0.1% year-over-year to MOP61.03 billion, down from MOP61.11 billion in the second quarter of 2025.
Clearly, although the year-to-date market showed an advantage over last year, June clearly lagged behind the strong May numbers. The latest numbers suggest the second quarter was broadly stable overall, but with June pulling the quarter slightly below the previous year’s level.
Analysts Flag World Cup Effect
Several investment analysts have pointed out in their June commentaries that the FIFA World Cup 2026 soccer match may affect demand for casino gambling in Macau. This event will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
This implies that the tournament may attract attention and spending away from casino gaming activities at this time. The latest June figures were released against that backdrop, giving more weight to those earlier expectations.

Macau’s gaming market has often been watched closely for monthly changes, and June’s data offered another snapshot of how external events can influence player activity. The softer result came after May had delivered a stronger month for the sector.
First-Half Total Still Ahead
Even with the June decline, Macau’s cumulative GGR for the year remained ahead of the same point in 2025. The 6.8% increase for the January-to-June period reflects the stronger performance earlier in the year.
The second-quarter figure, however, showed that momentum slowed in June and offset part of the earlier gains. With the quarter ending almost unchanged from last year, attention now turns to how the market performs in the months that follow the World Cup period.
For now, the June data leaves Macau with a year-to-date lead, but also with a second quarter that was almost identical to last year’s level. The monthly decline stands out as the main drag on what had been a stronger first-half showing.
