Spintec Sees Macau Opening in Live-Dealer ETG Market

Spintec d.o.o. is preparing to pursue a bigger role in Macau’s live-dealer electronic table game segment, with the company saying the market offers a large opening as LT Game Ltd’s patent nears expiry. The view comes from Spintec chief commercial officer Goran Sovilj, who discussed the company’s plans in a recent interview with GGRAsia.

Patent Expiry Opens Space

Sovilj said the expiry of LT Game’s patent creates a sizable opportunity for ETG manufacturers. He said Spintec believes the market is large enough for several suppliers to secure a share of it.

He also said the company’s position in Macau is supported by the recognisability of its software and its existing footprint in the city. According to him, Spintec is well placed as the segment develops further.

LT Game, which is a subsidiary of Paradise Entertainment Ltd., listed in Hong Kong, has been dominating the live dealer ETG industry in Macau. This is because the company offers a live multi-game that utilizes a stadium setup where there are rows of gaming terminals connected to live dealer baccarat games.

That market position has been tied to a patent covering the use of multiple terminals for electronic table games involving a human dealer. The term of the patent is due to end next month. As per Macau’s current regulation, an invention patent lasts for 20 years from the filing date of the application.

Product Development Plans

Sovilj said Spintec has not yet received any inquiries from Macau casino operators about live-dealer ETG products. Even so, the company is already preparing for the opportunity through product development.

He said Spintec has a clear roadmap for its Asian business and that the Macau stadium opportunity is part of that plan. The company appears to be positioning itself ahead of any shift in the market once the patent protection ends.

In Macau, Spintec works with Hong Kong-listed and Macau-based gaming equipment distributor Asia Pioneer Entertainment Ltd. Sovilj described that partnership as outstanding and said APE has been very helpful to the company.

As previously reported by GGRAsia, Macau’s gaming regulator approved Spintec’s Aura and Karma ETG products for distribution in the local market in August last year. The products are suitable for live and virtual baccarat.

New Products In Macau

At the Global Gaming Expo Asia trade show in Macau in May, Spintec introduced a set of upgrades to its Virtual Baccarat product. The changes included new side-bet options alongside the existing Lucky 6 feature.

The additions included Small and Big Lucky 6, Lucky 7, Small and Big Lucky 7, Super Lucky 7, Pairs+, Monkey no Monkey, and 4/5/6 Cards. These side bets were recently approved by Macau’s casino regulator.

The company also unveiled its MultiView game platform, which allows players to display and take part in up to 4 games at the same time on a single screen. The launch added another product line to Spintec’s Macau-facing offering.

Wider Asia Strategy

Spintec is also looking to strengthen its position in Macau’s automated sic bo market. Sovilj said there is currently limited competition in that segment and that operators are looking for an alternative, which the company is working hard to provide.

He added that Spintec already has a sizable presence in Macau’s automated roulette market. When walking across gaming floors, he said, a large number of its units can already be seen installed.

Beyond Macau, Sovilj said the company is working to expand across Asia. He said Spintec is still finding the best way to increase its footprint in the Philippines, but has already completed a couple of good deals in South Korea and holds a strong position in India.

He said the company wants to stay close to the markets where it operates and make sure it takes customer requirements into account, noting that each market is different.
