Les Rouges got an equalizing goal from Cyle Larin off the bench in a 1-1 draw with Bosnia & Herzegovina to open the tournament, the first time Canada have ever avoided defeat in a World Cup match on their seventh attempt.
That, along with Qatar’s surprising 1-1 draw with Switzerland, has left Group B wide open through the opening round of matches, as all teams are level on a point thus far.
The Sporting News brings you a look at the projected starting lineups for both teams, as well as an overview of their World Cup squads, plus odds, predictions, and how to watch the game.

Canada projected starting 11
4-4-2, right to left: 16. Crepeau (GK) — 2. Johnston, 4. De Fougerolles, 13. Cornelius, 22. Laryea — 17. Buchanan, 8. Kone, 7. Eustaquio, 11. Millar — 10. David, 12. Oluwaseyi.
- Injured: A. Davies (hamstring), M. Bombito (fitness, doubt)
- Suspended: None
Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies is in the Canada squad but has been dealing with persistent fitness problems since suffering an ACL injury last year. He is still yet to fully recover from a hamstring problem sustained during Bayern’s Champions League semifinal against Paris Saint-Germain on May 6.
«We did an MRI with [Davies] yesterday,» Marsch said at his pre-match news conference. «It showed very positive signs that he’s healing incredibly well, almost completely. We’re getting ready to ramp things up. I think that he’s showing, like he always has, a real good ability to recover from muscle injuries.»
Hull City winger Liam Millar lines up in what looks like a central midfield three, at least according to FIFA’s match page. Alfie Jones, part of the defeated Middlesbrough squad in that Championship final loss to Millar’s side, is a doubt.
Cyle Larin scored a big goal in the opener coming off the bench, so it remains to be seen whether he starts or if Tani Oluwaseyi. Jonathan David and Tajon Buchanan should join the Villarreal centre-forward in a front three.
Fellow defender Moise Bombito has only played once since suffering a broken leg with club side Nice in France, and struggled to recover his fitness, but only just made the roster and continues to recover in the hopes of slotting back into his starting role along the back.

The squad boasts six other centurions outside of Al-Haydos, including Qatar’s all-time leading goal scorer Almoez Ali who has 115 caps and 55 goals before the age of 30.

At this point, Canada have to prove they are capable of winning winnable games before fans can comfortably back them to secure victory in a World Cup game.
While they got their first-ever World Cup point last time out, they still struggled to profit from all their hard work, making it clear this team is still learning how to win on the biggest stage, a lesson which takes time to digest — often generations.
