Longhorns’ Rodriguez continues scorching postseason run with third cycle in MCWS history
The Texas Longhorns staved off elimination at the Men’s College World Series Monday afternoon, defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide 14–2 at Charles Schwab Field Omaha. Texas struck early and often, and no Longhorn was hotter at the plate than Adrian Rodriguez.
Rodriguez went 5-for-5 and joined Minnesota’s Jerry Kindall (1956) and Tennessee’s Christian Moore (2024) as the only hitters to record a cycle at the Men’s College World Series.

First, the Texas shortstop ripped a two-run double down the first-base line in the first to extend the Longhorns’ lead to 3–0:

In his next plate appearance, the Flower Mound H.S. (Flower Mound, TX) product split a pair of Alabama outfielders on a line drive to deep left-center. Originally scored a single and a two-base error, the ruling was changed to a triple later in the game:

Rodriguez then led off the fifth with a single, before launching a two-run homer to right in the sixth to complete the cycle:

He tacked on an RBI double in the eighth inning to complete his perfect day at the plate. Rodriguez’s sophomore season has been hampered by a lingering left-hand and wrist injury dating back to a hamate fracture suffered after being hit by a pitch in March 2025, requiring multiple surgeries and forcing him to abandon switch-hitting.
Rodriguez had a solid regular season, but has been unstoppable during the postseason, hitting .667 with an OPS of 1.869, 10 extra-base hits, and 16 runs batted in.
