Brazil’s Betting Industry Generates Over R$1 Billion in Federal Revenue During First Quarter of 2026
A regulated betting market became a considerable part of Brazil’s economy in the first quarter of 2026. During the period between January and March, the revenue collected by the federal government exceeded R$1.15 billion, thanks to betting operators.

This result was achieved with the help of Brazil’s Access to Information Law (LAI), as Pay4Fun, a payment company operating in the betting market, obtained the data. The report indicated that the betting sector accounted for a large share of the total federal revenue collection, which amounted to R$4.17 billion.
The numbers also show how fast the online betting market became a considerable source of the state’s income after the regulation of the sector. With new operators entering the legal gambling market, the income tax collection related to sports betting and online gaming is expected to be high during the rest of the year.
A Stable Tax Income from Betting Operators
The quarter-long statistics showed that tax payments made by betting operators were rather stable in the first quarter. During January, the betting market brought R$368 million to the federal government’s budget.
The maximum monthly revenue was observed in February when operators paid R$443 million. Meanwhile, March closed the period with R$338 million collected, maintaining the billion-real pace set at the beginning of the year.
The stability of the figures indicates that the betting market cannot be considered only as a seasonal sector any longer. Instead, it becomes an integral part of the Brazilian digital economy and the tax system as more licensed operators start working in the regulated market.
Funding for Responsible Gambling Initiatives in the Health Sector
Some of the revenue collected from betting operations has also been used for public health measures. Out of the total amount received in the first quarter of the year, the Ministry of Health was granted R$12.8 million.
This money will be used to carry out preventive measures against the social problem of ludopathy, as well as awareness campaigns. This initiative aims to provide necessary assistance to vulnerable gamblers, as well as promote the safe use of gambling services offered by operators.
As authorities repeatedly stated, responsible gambling policies are one of the most important principles of the Brazilian betting regulation model. Therefore, the funding of health programs is an indicator of the rising concern about the issue.
Traditional Lotteries Are Still Dominating in Social Investment
Despite the fact that the betting market is developing rapidly, Brazil’s traditional federal lotteries are still the main financial source of the government within the gaming industry.
According to the recent reports of Caixa Econômica Federal, the institution has transferred more than R$3.1 billion into social projects and initiatives due to its lottery operations.
These funds are distributed across several key sectors of Brazilian society. The Ministry of Sports, Culture, Healthcare, and Public Safety is among the most significant beneficiaries of the federal lotteries.
Thus, the overall performance of both the regulated betting market and traditional lotteries shows how important gaming-related activities have become to the country’s public finance system.
