Purpose of Using Artificial Intelligence for Monitoring

The new technology will be able to identify risk behavior associated not only with problematic gambling but also potentially illicit activity that involves the online gaming platform. AI tools will be able to monitor user data in order to identify signs of compulsive gambling behavior, risky financial transactions, and manipulations in the platform.

The following behaviors and signs will be monitored and detected thanks to the use of AI tools:

• suspicious micro-betting,
• use of fake or robot accounts,
• abnormal patterns related to fund deposits into the player account,
• disproportionate increase in betting amount,
• repetitive loss chasing,
• frequency and duration of gambling activity,
• impulsivity signs in user interactions.

Immediate Response to Promote Awareness

Apart from being able to detect potential issues in the game, the proposed framework allows for incorporating automated and immediate responses from operators with regard to identified problems. In particular, users will be informed about their behavior and encouraged to stop playing.

Additionally, players might be asked to temporarily suspend their access to the platform. Moreover, the system will allow users to consult with a psychologist or another professional.

World’s First Use of AI to Combat Problematic Gambling in Argentina

Thus, IPLyC of Misiones has become the first lottery authority in Argentina to introduce artificial intelligence as an instrument of early prevention of problem gambling. With this tool, operators will be capable of detecting potential risks and responding immediately to them.

Such innovations in the regulatory field can be considered the result of a growing trend of using new technology in fighting the negative effects of online gaming platforms.

Cooperation Agreement on Preventing Gambling Risks

Apart from the introduction of innovative approaches to monitoring gambling, IPLyC has engaged in cooperation with other entities for further expansion of its efforts. Specifically, IPLyC signed a cooperation agreement with the L.E.A. Foundation (Lugar por la Educación Argentina). The partnership’s primary purpose is to work together on initiatives to tackle gambling risks among young people and students.

According to the agreement, both institutions are planning to cooperate to exchange knowledge, train personnel, conduct research, organize cultural and scientific events, and develop educational initiatives in the academic environment. IPLyC and the L.E.A. Foundation will also engage in the development of responsible digital citizens.

Use of innovative technologies, such as artificial intelligence, signifies a step towards the preventive regulation of gambling markets. While traditional approaches were mainly focused on the reaction after the appearance of certain risks, the proposed innovation will help identify risks at an early stage.
