Entering the offseason, the Adelaide Crows were thought to be a team that was going to be really aggressive in getting new talent into the club for Matthew Nicks.

But after a failed move for Brisbane’s Zac Bailey, the Crows haven’t done a thing.
For most, that is odd, given the Crows were pushing towards the top of the ladder last season and had a deep finals run, so why not try to bring in better talent?
Well, that is what everyone is asking right now as the whole situation seems a little odd.

And for SEN’s Kane Cornes, he cites the difference in approach between the Crows and Geelong, who have been very active.
But then he adds a little extra spice to his take.
“I’m looking at Adelaide going, what is going on?” Cornes said SEN Mornings. “I compare them to Geelong, and you want to know why Geelong win constantly and they’re up the top versus why Adelaide haven’t won in 30 years?
“Just look at the last two weeks. But is there a conspiracy that, they don’t want to give Matthew Nicks the tools because they’re setting him up to fail. [The Crows are] out on Matthew Nicks, so they do not want to provide him with a list that’s going to get him to be more competitive than he was last year.

“Essentially they’re hoping it fails for Matty Nicks, because they don’t believe in him as their long-term coach.”
Is Adelaide out on Nicks?
We will never know, but remember the rumblings before the finals that if Nicks fails to win a game, a change could be made?
So, there is smoke around this.
But I do find it odd if what Cornes is saying is true, and the Crows are essentially wasting a season.
Give Nick the tools he needs to take this club to the next level, and if they truly believe he isn’t «the guy,» then move on and bring someone else in.
Don’t waste 12 months.
Or Adelaide could be keeping its powder dry to land a big fish next offseason.
In truth, this is all speculation, but the Crows’ handling of business this offseason has been a little odd, to say the least.
