When the news broke that Chris Fagan was stepping down as Brisbane Lions coach, attention turned to who could succeed him.

We know of Cameron Bruce and Danny Daly, both in-house candidates and, for some, the leading two to take over from Fagan.

But as we know, clubs like to run a proper process, instead of simply picking someone straight from in-house, and it is reportedly exactly what the Lions are doing.

And one name has popped up that might intrigue some.

Damien Barrett was on Footy Furnace and detailed that the Lions are thinking of asking Nathan Buckley to be part of the process.

«What I have learned is that there is consideration being given to ask Nathan Buckley to also be part of the process,» Barrett said. «That’s yet to be formally reached out to Nathan, but there were conversations I know in the past 24, 48 hours that have had him part of it, as in how does it look and who do we want to bring in from outside to at least be part of the conversations, and however this process may look.»

Should Buckley be part of the process?

Well, from the outside the answer is easy and that is a yes.

Plus, he withdrew from the North Melbourne coaching search, with many thinking that was because of Jaymie Graham, and the Roos seemingly picking him to be their next coach.

Buckley has made it clear that he wants to return to coaching, and now that the Lions job has opened up, with their list and what Fagan has built, it could be a nice homecoming for Buckley, who started his career back with the Bears.

Granted, the Lions are only considering asking him to be part of the process, but we think it’s a good step for Buckley.
