Donte DiVincenzo’s season-ending Achilles tear was the major blow, but Minnesota also had two starters, Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels, fighting to play through injuries by the time the postseason came around, eventually losing to the Spurs in the second round.

For Edwards, the hope is that his knee issues last spring will be of no concern in 2026-27. Over the weekend, the star guard spoke about his recovery from his injuries and why he’s feeling «great» ahead of the new campaign.

Here’s what Edwards revealed about his offseason recovery from his knee injury.

Anthony Edwards reveals why he took time off this offseason

By the end of last season, Edwards was dealing with a runner’s knee ailment in his right knee and a hyperextended left knee that resulted in a bone bruise. He managed to play through those injuries in the playoffs, but once Minnesota’s season ended, it was time to focus on recovery.

Edwards said he took a long time off in the offseason, which helped his injuries.

“After the season I needed like two months, I took really like two months off to really let my knee heal …  I got back right, so I feel great,» Edwards told reporters over the weekend.

The star guard added that his time off led to him gaining weight, but he’s since lost that weight again.

“It was super tough,» Edwards said. “I just play the game, and be a dad, that’s it. Be a husband, be a dad, and play the game, all I do is play the game. Wake up, 6:30 in the morning, with my baby girl, do what ever she wants to do. Go back to sleep a little bit, get some treatment, and then just play the game.»
