Betano Pauses FIFA Talks Over 2027 Women’s World Cup Sponsorship in Brazil
Due to Brazil’s decision to regulate betting online, Betano has reportedly suspended advanced talks with FIFA to secure the rights to sponsor the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in the country.

The event will be held in Brazil from June 24 to July 25, 2027. But with the recent limitations, there has been uncertainty as to the benefits of commercial deals with betting firms, as Betano’s executives have been said to be concerned about the value of sponsoring an event where the brand would not be able to include its logo in stadiums in the host country.
The move follows Betano’s announcement of a global partnership with UEFA for the European Championship in the UK and Ireland in 2028. Although the company is still building up its international sponsorship repertoire, plans to enter the Brazilian market have been shelved.
Advertising Restrictions Affect FIFA Properties
The break comes after the government banned betting ads under its new regulations, and the suspension of approved betting websites from the internet on October 6. The ban is under judicial review and may be reviewed and amended as part of the process as it goes through Brazil’s National Congress, but the uncertainty has already been impacting commercial negotiations.
There are currently 16 confirmed commercial partners for the 2027 World Cup, including some of the world’s major FIFA sponsors such as Adidas, Coca–Cola and Visa, as well as other companies like Lay’s and Unilever under its Dove brand.
Restrictions may also lead to difficulties for international sponsorship deals with betting companies. Betano has also previously occupied a significant part in FIFA’s commercial arena, having served as a global partner of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup as well as a European and South American partner of the 2026 FIFA World Cup for men.
International Agreements Face Local Restrictions
Brazil’s restrictions may have implications not just for the 2027 edition. Betano has won the UEFA branding for Euro 2028, but their usage may be limited in Brazil during the game coverage.

CazéTV will air the European Championship to Brazilian fans, but the country’s current regulations on the advertising of betting might not give Betano the same exposure as in other markets.
It underscores the complications arising out of a clash between international sponsorship contracts and national advertising and gambling laws. International tournaments can have one framework for the commercials, and individual markets may have different rules on presentation of commercials to local audiences.
Flamengo and CBF Deals Also Affected
The Brazilian move on soccer betting had already caused a significant freeze on Betano’s investments. One of the largest repercussions includes its shirt sponsorship deal with Flamengo, which is estimated to cost R$268.5 million per season.
The company also has large-scale commercial partnerships with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). Betano has the naming rights of the Copa do Brasil since 2023 and the Brasileirão Série A since 2024, with the contracts bringing in some R$100 million a year.
Both have been suspended since the restrictions. The consequences, then, are broader than the ones that FIFA would be able to use, and are felt in some of the most valuable commercial relationships between betting companies and Brazilian sport.
The legal framework of the betting market is still unclear, and the bettors’ uncertainty about his/her legality stands in the way of restarting commercial operations for companies like Betano. It also brings questions about the presence of betting sponsors in Brazil before major international events for FIFA and other sports clubs.
