Fulham’s dreadful luck against Manchester United continued as a late, deflected goal from Matheus Cunha sees Man United snatch an undeserved point at Craven Cottage.

Fulham had outplayed United throughout much of the game, with Bernd Leno standing tall in net and a Lisandro Martinez own-goal giving the Whites a lead early in the second half.

Yet as United pushed for an equaliser through the latter stages of the match, they found the fortune Michael Carrick needed to stave off a worst-case scenario, as Cunha’s long-range shot pinged in off David Affengruber and into the net.

Given both managers came into this match under significant pressure, neither comes out of it with any real relief, especially Alvaro Arbeloa whose Fulham climb off the basement but only one place to 19th. United’s point is aso only good enough to move one point up into 12th, as both managers remain under fire.

FULLTIME: Fulham 1-1 Man United

1:21 p.m. — Man United salvage a point, but it’s only that, as both sides fail to get the victory needed to truly relieve the pressure.

For Fulham, it’s another incident of terrible luck as they seemed en route to breaking their Man United curse only to see it strike late once again. A thrilling game that somehow ends with just the two very fortunate goals!

89th min: GOAL! MAN UNITED!

1:15 p.m. — MATHEUS CUNHA AND UNITED HAVE A LATE EQUALISER OFF A MASSIVE DEFLECTION!

United have had very little end product today, but their luck at Craven Cottage continues as they snatch a point at the death on a speculative shot that takes a huge deflection off David Affengruber that leaves Bernd Leno with no chance! There’s nothing either Affengruber or Bernd Leno could do, and United have secured a point if they can hang on the rest of the way!

So so unlucky for Fulham, whose demons against Man United continue! Can either team go on to win it with three minutes of added time?

85th min: Yellow card

1:10 p.m. — Rodrigo Muniz is booked for not only a hard foul in the back of a Man United player trying to get up for a header, but then also for kicking the ball away after the fact as United looked to take a quick free-kick.

77th min: Substitutions

1:03 p.m. — Both teams make changes. Marcus Rashford is withdrawn by Man United in favour of Joshua Zirkzee, and Hugo Larsson enters the Fulham midfield to replace Sander Berge.

A few minutes later, Fulham make another two changes as Rodrigo Muniz replaces Gonzalo Garcia up front, while defender Joachim Anderson replaces playmaker Josh King in a defensive change. United make another swap themselves as Mason Mount replaces Kobbie Mainoo in midfield.

74th min: Chance, Man United!

1 p.m. — A THIRD MASSIVE SAVE FROM BERND LENO! Matheus Cunha, who has been invisible today, finally crops up in the attack by somehow managing to get not only a shot on target from an impossible position, but sending the ball seeking the inside of the far post with a shot while sliding to the ground.

Leno tracks it the whole way, and the Fulham goalkeeper dives to make a fingertip save and push the ball out for a corner. What a fantastic stop! He’s been critical today!

70th min: Substitution

12:56 p.m. — Fulham make a pair of changes, with wingers Alex Iwobi and Oscar Bobb withdrawn. On in their places are Kevin and Cesar Palacios. Iwobi had a fabulous first half but has faded since the break.

67th min: Chance, Man United!

12:53 p.m. — A HUGE DIVING SAVE BY BERND LENO! Man United have been better since the Fulham goal, and Bryan Mbeumo picks out a shot from the top of the area off a corner. He’s wide open, but Leno dives to the goalkeeper’s right to make an acrobatic save, his second of the kind this match!

63rd min: GOAL! FULHAM!

12:49 p.m. — IT’S A LISANDRO MARTINEZ OWN-GOAL! A COMEDY OF ERRORS FOR MAN UNITED!

Calvin Bassey takes a ferocious low shot from the top of the penalty area which is low and bobbling. It’s difficult for Senne Lammens to handle the snap shot, and all he can do is get down on one knee and block the effort. The rebound jumps to Lisandro Martinez facing his own goal, and it dinks off the Argentine and into the back of the net!

50th min: Yellow card

12:35 p.m. — Timothy Castagne is booked for a brutal clothesline on Marcus Rashford who was threatening to break free on the counter. An obvious yellow card for Peter Bankes to dish out, the second of the game, both to Fulham players.

2nd half kickoff

12:31 p.m. — They’re back under way at Craven Cottage, where we had 26 shots in the first half, the most of any opening 45 minutes this season, and the most of any goalless first half in the Premier League since Opta records began in 2003!

Will we get the goals we’ve been promised here in the second half? Neither side makes a change to their lineup at the halftime break, but why would they?

HALFTIME: Fulham vs. Man United

12:16 p.m. — The Josh King yellow card is the last action of the half, as no stoppage time is shown.

It was an extremely exciting first half, but the teams enter the dressing room goalless. Both goalkeepers have made exceptional saves, Fulham missed a pair of good chances, and Man United hit the woodwork twice. Hopefully the fireworks continue in the second half, because if so, there’s little chance this ends deadlocked!

45th min: Yellow card

12:15 p.m. — Josh King is booked for a dive. Fulham tried to take advantage of Man United losing the ball in their own half, as Alex Iwobi touches to King, who tries to touch past Harry Maguire. While Maguire got his arm slightly around King’s hip, the Fulham youngster did not need to go to ground.

32nd min: Chance, Fulham!

12:02 p.m — ANOTHER HUGE SAVE BY SENNE LAMMENS! It’s end-to-end stuff!

Fulham attack quickly through Alex Iwobi down the middle, and he floats a diagonal ball to the right edge of the six-yard box for Josh King. The 19-year-old England youth international cuts vertically and rips a tight-angle shot, and Lammens does just enough, splaying out and sticking a leg at the ball, getting just a tiny bit of contact with his toe to poke the ball off its line!

29th min: Chance, Fulham!

11:59 a.m. — Sander Berge forces a huge save from Senne Lammens! Antonee Robinson receives the ball on a cross at the far post, and he taps it to Alex Iwobi with his back to goal who settles it backwards for Berge, but his long-range effort is within the reach of a diving Lammens!

Then moments later, Oscar Bobb gets a good look but fires it just wide!

25th min: Chance, Man United!

11:55 a.m. — OH DEAR, FULHAM NEARLY GIFT MAN UNITED A GOAL, BUT BRUNO FERNANDES HITS THE POST!

David Affengruber tries to shield the ball out for a goal kick, but instead it’s nicked off him by Bryan Mbeumo on the edge of the six-yard box! He cuts it back for Bruno at the top-corner of the central area, and he slides the ball towards the net, but it slow-rolls off the post and out where Fulham can clear it! So close!

20th min: Chance, Fulham!

11:50 a.m. — Josh King is the centre of every Fulham attack, and he gets on the ball shaded right of goal and fires a tight-angle shot that flashes over the crossbar!

King has managed to get Gonzalo Garcia involved on a few occasions, but Fulham have not found a breakthrough yet. They’ve been good in the attacking third.

10th min: Chance, Man United!

11:40 a.m. — WHAT A SAVE by Bernd Leno! Lisandro Martinez lashes a volley off a headed clearance, and it’s a howitzer seeking the top-right corner, but the German goalkeeper dives to parry the ball away at full-stretch! A brilliant early stop!

Both teams have shown good attacking intent early in this match, we could be in store for a fun one.

Kickoff

11:30 a.m. — They’re under way in London on the banks of the Thames!

Prematch

11:15 a.m. — Kickoff is just around the corner! Which club will come out of here with much-needed points, and which manager will be on the precipice of the sack at the end of this game?

11 a.m. — While Man United’s attack has struggled at times this season, one player who has been strong throughout so far is Marcus Rashford. He has created the joint-most chances for United so far with nine, and he has the most touches in the opposition penalty area of any United player, as well as the most completed dribbles. It’s not translated to end product just yet, but that should be coming if he keeps up this level of play.

10:45 a.m. — Benjamin Sesko’s absence reportedly appears to be down to the same shin issue that kept him out during the summer’s preseason. We will find out more when Michael Carrick speaks to the media ahead of the match.

UPDATE: Carrick has confirmed as much, saying he felt some pain after the last match against Brighton.

10:30 a.m. — Bruno Fernandes equaled the Premier League single-season assists record last season, but only has one so far this year. Expecting him to match those historic levels would have been foolish, but he’s still creating at far lower levels than he did last season.

During the 2025/26 campaign, Fernandes assisted nearly four shots every 90 minutes, but this season that is down to just 2.3 shot assists per match. United need him to begin doing more in the attacking third if they are to turn around their form.

Lineups

10:15 a.m. — Lineups are in! It’s mostly as expected for Manchester United, with Luke Shaw coming in at left-back instead of Noussair Mazraoui. Interestingly, there’s no Benjamin Sesko on the bench, but Carlos Baleba does appear amongst the substitutes.

For Fulham, meanwhile, it’s exactly as expected, with an unchanged side from the previous Premier League game after having rotated in the EFL Cup win midweek. New signing David Affengruber starts along the back line, while Alex Iwobi starts on the left wing over the bright young Cesar Palacios who had a goal and assist against West Ham.

Lead-up

10 a.m. — Josh King has been outstanding for Fulham to begin this season. The 19-year-old has scored two goals, but is doing so much more than just end product. He is also advancing the ball forward at exceptional rates, and is creating chances very well too, assisting a goal in the recent 3-2 win over West Ham in the EFL Cup.

Sadly, King was not rewarded for his excellence with a call-up from Thomas Tuchel to the England squad, which many felt he deserved. The German boss acknowledged that King has been fantastic, but that his No. 10 position is too stacked to make room for him.

«It was very, very close but, in the end, I felt like we keep the squad tight and give the players that come into camp,» Tuchel said. «Let’s say in Josh’s position, the No.10 position with Cole and with Jude, so they have our trust.

«Josh is therefore with the U21s, but he was very close and is on the radar.»

9:45 a.m. — One of the biggest stories today is Man United’s incredible record not only against Fulham but at Craven Cottage. The Red Devils have lost just one of their last 21 matches against today’s opponents, and have not lost at this venue since 2009, when Fulham won 3-0 on their home ground.

9:30 a.m. — Welcome to live coverage from The Sporting News of Fulham vs. Manchester United in the Premier League!

This match is enormous for both managers, each of whom are under pressure at their various stations. Michael Carrick has seen things go sour at the start of the season for Manchester United, winning just one of their first four league games of the season while crashing out of the EFL Cup at the same time. Alvaro Arbeloa is in the same boat at Fulham, with no wins thus far and barely scraping through in their recent EFL Cup game against a Championship opponent.

Who will come out of this one with the pressure relieved, and who will exit with even more scrutiny on them?
