Fiji has announced its extended 40-man squad for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup beginning next month.

Coached by Mick Potter and featuring a host of current NRL stars, the squad is the latest reminder of the growing health and popularity of international rugby league, particularly in the Pacific.

Standouts in the powerful ‘Bati’ line-up include Viliame Kikau, Apisai Koroisau, Jahream Bula, Sunia Turuva, Kurt Donoghoe and the Fainu brothers Latu, Samuela and Sione.

Newcastle and NSW Blues prop Jacob Saifiti has also been named but is unlikely to feature given he is currently serving a four-match suspension.

Fiji has been drawn in Group A and begins its 2026 World Cup campaign against the Cook Islands on Sunday October 18 at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle.

They will then play Australia in Brisbane and New Zealand on the Gold Coast in their remaining group matches.

Fiji was knocked out in the quarter finals of the 2022 World Cup in England, losing 24-18 to New Zealand.
