Ronald Volkman has made a major call on his future, signing a new two-year deal with Parramatta despite significant uncertainty surrounding whether he would remain at the club beyond this season.

The Eels have officially secured the 23-year-old until the end of 2028, completing a turnaround after Volkman had attracted interest elsewhere and appeared increasingly likely to continue his career away from Parramatta.

Canterbury had emerged as an interested NRL rival in recent weeks, while earlier reports indicated Volkman had also been offered to multiple Super League clubs as he searched for an opportunity beyond 2026.

Parramatta’s own position has also shifted during the season, with the club ultimately deciding to retain the playmaker following an impressive run of performances under Jason Ryles.

Volkman has made 17 NRL appearances this season and registered 10 try assists, establishing himself as a genuine first-grade option after entering the year without certainty surrounding his longer-term future.

His performances have now been rewarded with another two seasons at Parramatta, despite the Eels preparing for significant changes to their halves following the arrival of Jarome Luai next season.

Luai is expected to partner Mitchell Moses in the halves, potentially leaving Volkman fighting for a place in the starting side despite the form that has helped earn him his new contract.

Volkman’s resurgence represents an impressive turnaround after his career was thrown into uncertainty several years ago when a proposed move to St George Illawarra collapsed due to a shoulder injury.

He has since rebuilt his career and established himself at Parramatta, with his performances this season ultimately convincing the Eels to secure his services despite the competition for positions that awaits in 2027.

Rather than searching for another opportunity elsewhere, Volkman will now remain part of Ryles’ rebuild through to the end of 2028 as Parramatta continues to reshape its roster for the future.
