Manchester City dropped in excess of $250 million on deadline day alone to bring in Illiman Ndiaye (pictured) and Enzo Fernandez from Everton and Chelsea, respectively.

Fernandez and his new teammate Elliot Anderson join the small but growing ranks of men with price tags in excess of £100m in the Premier League. At Liverpool, Bradley Barcola joins Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz in England’s most expensively assembled attacking trio of all time.

Barcola left two-time reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain, who, along with Clasico giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, have been more circumspect this time around.

Man City’s deadline-day splurge puts them at the top of the spending charts for summer 2026, giving Enzo Maresca an impressively tooled squad as he seeks to build upon Pep Guardiola’s remarkable legacy at the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea are the next biggest spenders, although the Fernandez sale and the collapse of a deal for intended replacement Lamine Camara from Monaco mean they ended up with positive net spend.

Tottenham Hotspur have embarked upon a hasty and expensive rebuild, yet to yield a Premier League point or a goal, while Newcastle United and Aston Villa have each seen plenty of business in and out.

Madrid and Barcelona are the only non-Premier League teams in the top 10, sandwiching newly promoted Ipswich Town.

The Premier League once again set a new record for spending in a summer transfer window with a total $4.76 billion outlay, breaking the previous record of $4.17bn set 12 months ago. Prior to summer 2025, the Premier League had not exceeded $3.25bn in a summer window.

Italy’s Serie A has spent over $1bn collectively in each of the past five years, but never up to $1.5bn. Ligue 1 is the only other division to surpass $1bn during this period, thanks almost entirely to Paris Saint-Germain’s summer 2023 spending.

La Liga’s spending, despite the power of Madrid and Barcelona, has been less than that of other rival leagues after Spain’s soccer authorities brought in strict financial regulations.

Clubs with lowest net spend in this transfer window

Paris Saint-Germain have frequently topped the spending charts, but a settled squad and the sale of Barcola this summer meant they top Europe’s net-spend table.

Luis Enrique’s club have spent $176m to bring in the likes of Maghnes Akliouche and Ferran Torres, but Barcola’s switch to Anfield and Goncalo Ramos and Ibrahim Mbaye’s moves to AC Milan and Aston Villa respectively have contributed to a positive transfer balance of $211.1m.

PSG are one of three Ligue 1 clubs to have a transfer balance in excess of £100m this summer. Lille brought in big money for Ayyoub Bouaddi and Matias Fernandez-Pardo, while Strasbourg’s $46.3m sale of Valentin Barco to affiliated club Chelsea helped them to a healthy balance sheet.

West Ham have absorbed relegation from the Premier League, and selling the likes of Mateus Fernandes has left them in a decent financial position.
