Kevin Durant recently caused endless chatter online by comparing the new-look Philadelphia 76ers to his old Golden State Warriors dynasty. Draymond Green, who won two rings alongside Durant during their time together with the Warriors, defended his friend and told fans that the comparison will make sense for those who understand how KD actually watches the game.

The drama started after LeBron James signed with Philadelphia this offseason to join Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. The Houston Rockets forward recently argued that the Sixers’ new core features four elite offensive threats, giving them more individual scoring firepower on paper than the 2016-17 Warriors squad he won a title with.
«The last time they put three 20-point scorers on a team, they said it was unfair, which was the team I was on,» Durant said, talking about his old Golden State squad with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
Kevin Durant on LeBron James’s 76ers: “The last time they put three 20-point scorers on a team, they said it was unfair, which was the [Warriors] team I was on. They have got four 25-point scorers on this team. So, hell yeah, I think they’re going to be a contender.” pic.twitter.com/aFcSyDoEq1

But the comparison turned into an online beef when Durant claimed Thompson was «never an MVP candidate.» Thompson might not take Durant’s remark lightly and fired back on Instagram.

However, on the recent episode of his own show, Green explained where Durant’s logic comes from, saying, «The way KD views basketball is very Uncle Drew-ish. This game will and always will be about buckets. That’s how KD views the game.»
Draymond reacts to KD’s comments on LeBron joining the Sixers
«You have to understand the way KD view basketball, the way KD view basketball is very Uncle Drew-ish, this game will and always will be about buckets… so he’s going to mention the 25-point scorers… He also said… pic.twitter.com/YC3yru9gEG

Green noted that Philly’s projection of four 25-point scorers is exactly the kind of pure depth that makes a team «League Pass-worthy» to KD. He also pushed back against fans who completely missed Durant’s point, adding, “I think everybody looks at that and is like, ‘Oh man, that team is nothing like that team was.’ I don’t think he ever said that.”
Durant and Green shared a locker room from 2016 to 2019, winning back-to-back titles before Durant left for Brooklyn. They have had plenty of public drama — most famously their 2018 sideline screaming match — but Green sticking up for Durant’s mindset shows the respect between them is still there.
