Dragons snare ANOTHER rival NRL playmaker as 2027 rebuild continues

St. George Illawarra may be destined for the wooden spoon in 2026.

But the future just keeps getting brighter for the Red V with the club announcing yet another major recruitment coup for 2027.

The Dragons have confirmed Dolphins and NZ international playmaker Kodi Nikorima will join the club on a two-year-deal that will see him wear the red and white until at least the end of the 2028 season.

The 32-year-old is the latest in a string of key signings that will also see Luke Metcalf, Keaon Koloamatangi, Connor Watson, Phillip Sami and Scott Drinkwater join the club next season.

In announcing the news, recently-confirmed Dragons head coach Dean Young praised Nikorima’s experience and playmaking.

“Kodi’s achieved so much in the game and has been playing great football at the Dolphins,” Young said.

“He’s a classy player. His ball-playing ability and decision-making are elite. We are looking forward to welcoming him to the club in November.”

Along with the addition of Metcalf, Nikorima’s arrival marks the almost certain end of Kyle Flanagan’s time in first grade at the Dragons while allowing 20-year-old half Kade Reed more time to develop in NSW Cup away from the brutal NRL spotlight.

Daniel Atkinson may also have his work cut out holding down a permanent starting spot in the halves.

Meanwhile at the Dolphins, Nikorima’s departure makes things clearer next year with English international George Williams set to join the club in the offseason to partner star No.7 Isaiya Katoa.
