The 35-year-old will avoid surgery until the off-season, in a positive sign for both himself and the Roosters, with the club hopeful he can return before the finals should they secure a September berth.
While the immediate focus is on his recovery, the injury has also raised fresh questions over whether Tupou has played his last regular-season NRL game and whether he intends to continue his playing career beyond 2026.
The timing is particularly significant given Tupou sits just eight appearances away from becoming the Sydney Roosters’ all-time games record holder.

Already the club’s all-time leading try-scorer, Tupou needs only eight more first-grade appearances to surpass Jared Waerea-Hargreaves’ club-record 310 games, a milestone that now appears far less certain following his latest injury setback.

Few players have enjoyed the longevity and consistency Tupou has displayed since making his debut in 2012 and after recently celebrating his 300th game he already sits amongst Roosters greats.
Across more than a decade in Bondi, he has won three premierships, represented New South Wales and Australia, become the Roosters’ greatest try-scorer and cemented his place among the finest wingers of the modern era.
Whether this injury proves to be just another hurdle or the beginning of the end remains to be seen, but with history within touching distance and retirement speculation certain to grow, every remaining appearance in a Roosters jersey has suddenly become even more significant.
