Geelong’s Chris Scott reacts to Max Holmes’ injury news — ‘covered my ears!’

Geelong’s 27-point win over St Kilda got the Cats back on the winner’s list at a time when the club needed it the most.

Unfortunately, it came at a cost.

With the Cats already having Jeremy Cameron out for the next month or so at least, Chris Scott could ill afford any more injuries to key players.

But against the Saints, that’s exactly what happened.

In the fourth quarter, with the game in hand, star Max Holmes got his ankle trapped underneath him as he was going for the ball, and it was clear he was in serious trouble in the aftermath, with the nasty syndesmosis injury thought to be what Max suffered.

But Scott, in speaking post-game via Fox Sports, isn’t entirely sure of the prognosis yet.

«They won’t know until they’ve had a decent look at it,” Scott said. “It was pretty clear that he couldn’t come back on, so that’s always my measure in the immediate aftermath.

“I think everyone says syndesmosis these days, that’s the easy to go. There has been that suggestion, but I covered my ears, to be honest. I’ll just wait to see what it is and deal with it when we know.”

Cats can’t catch a break

After losing Cameron late in the loss to the GWS Giants last week, and now Holmes, that is two stars the Cats have lost in back-to-back weeks.

That isn’t ideal when you are pushing for a finals spot, but the Cats will fancy their chances to overcome this challenge.

With five games left in the season before finals, there is a real chance the Cats are going to have to qualify without two of their stars, so Scott will have to shuffle the magnets to get the desired results.

The win over the Saints showed the Cats are still dangerous, but with Melbourne and Collingwood up in the next fortnight, the margin for error is razor-thin.
