Has Collingwood’s ‘good sell’ made it favourites to land Brisbane star Lachie Neale?

Collingwood has been in offseason recruiting mode for what feels like the past month or so, as the club looks to get its ducks in a row for what is shaping up to be a big offseason for Craig McRae’s side.

Still in with a shot at finals in 2026, the Pies are reportedly looking to load up in the offseason to give themselves the best shot at remaining in the premiership hunt.

And one player they have been all over is Brisbane Lions star Lachie Neale.

With Neale looking likely to leave the Lions based on reports, a move to the Pies seems like one that could easily happen in the offseason.

And for reporter Caroline Wilson, who was on Channel 7’s Agenda Setters, she thinks the premiership star is destined to be a Pie.

«I don’t believe Lachie Neale will stay at Brisbane, I think he’s going to go to Collingwood,» Wilson said. «We mentioned Essendon, we mentioned St Kilda, both those clubs believe that Lachie Neale is going to go to Collingwood. Collingwood have done a good sell to Lachie Neale.»

Is Pies the right move for Neale?

It depends on what Neale wants from the last piece of his career.

We know of the reported three-year, multi-million deal, but Wilson also stated that part of the Pies’ good sell to Neale was how long Scott Pendlebury has played and that he might be able to do something similar.

So, it might not be «just» three years for Neale; it could be another handful with the Pies.

Is Collingwood in the premiership window? That is up for debate. Is it with Neale? Again, that’s a good topic of conversation.

But it does appear that the path for Neale this offseason, barring anything substantial happening, leads to Collingwood in 2027.
