Victor Wembanyama’s weakness gets exposed by ex-Spurs teammate to help Knicks

Schemes are a big part of how a team gets to take home the Larry O’Brien trophy in the NBA Finals. It usually helps when a coach or player has formerly been part of their opponents’ organization. Thankfully, the New York Knicks have that luxury against the San Antonio Spurs. See, Jeremy Sochan will get a championship ring no matter what happens between these two squads but he still had choice words about Victor Wembanyama and his weaknesses.

Sochan exposes Wembanyama’s weakness before Spurs vs. Knicks NBA Finals

For those who do not know, Jeremy Sochan has been with the Knicks since February of 2026. The Spurs waived him and the Knicks immediately swooped in to sign him as a free agent. He is currently on a one-year prorated veteran’s minimum contract that is valued at about $800,000.

Clearly, he will still get a championship ring regardless of who wins between the Knics and Spurs. Although, it is becoming very clear that Sochan has a clear dog in this fight. He wants to celebrate with the city of New York and see confetti flood the Knicks’ home court by the end of the NBA Finals. This is why he got very candid about Victor Wembanyama’s weakness and how the Knicks can batter the Spurs through a certain Achilles’ heel, via Jared Schwartz of the New York Post.

«Being that tall he gets tired…Give him different looks and not beat him up but be very physical, and make him run. And he’s gonna get tired, he’s gonna have to take some plays off in my opinion,» Sochan declared.

Wembanyama is going to cause a lot of headaches for the Knicks and Sochan is just trying to lessen the blow that the Spurs behemoth will cause.

How bad of a problem is Wembanyama entering the NBA Finals?

He leads 11 statistical categories so far in the NBA Playoffs. This includes his 183 total rebounds, 146 total defensive rebounds, 60 total blocks, 3.5 blocks per game, 27.6  PER (Player Efficiency Rating), 3.1 win shares, 1.4 defensive win shares, 1.6 VORP (Value Over Replacement Player), 9.6 block percentage, 3.9 blocks per 36 minutes, and 5.3 blocks per 100 possessions.

This big information from Sochan will likely be integrated by Coach Mike Brown in forming the Knicks’ defensive schemes and rotations in the NBA Finals. The fact that these two teams also split their two-game regular season series with a win apiece also brings a lot of optimism.

The question now becomes: can the Knicks capitalize on Wembanyama and the Spurs’ glaring weakness during the NBA Finals?
