Travis Kelce Guardians ownership, explained
Kelce is buying a minority ownership stake in his hometown Cleveland Guardians, becoming the latest active professional athlete to become a minority owner for a team in a different league.
«I’ve been lucky enough to have a front-row seat to good ownership in my career, and I know the best teams prioritize culture,» Kelce told ESPN’s Jeff Passan. «Everyone is there to play their role, and right now, I’m here to observe and learn and really to support the team and the city when and where I can.»
As a minority owner, Kelce won’t have much say within the organization, but he was recruited to invest by minority owner David Blitzer, who owns about one-third of the team. However, thanks to an agreement from 2022, Blitzer could be on the path to becoming the majority owner of the team as soon as after the 2027 season.
