In addition to the investment made by Grupo Tigre, which has not been publicly stated yet, Caixa is one of the initial supporters of the new program. As per reports from Valor Econômico, the POP model enables the participating companies to transfer up to 20% of the initial donation that is supposed to go to the COB directly to sports confederations involved in the program.
The arrangement appears to create considerable changes in how the sponsorship resources can be invested in Brazilian Olympic sports, providing more financial opportunities for the federations as well as more exposure options for the sponsors.
Highlights by COB Reveal New Funding Arrangements for Sports Federations
The budget for the COB for 2026 is expected to reach BRL 679 million. Roughly 70% of this sum, or BRL 475 million, comes from lottery funding sources, whereas almost 17%, or BRL 115 million, comes from tax revenues linked to betting.
Marco Antônio La Porta stated that the introduction of the new sponsorship scheme opens more commercial opportunities for both the COB and its affiliated sports organizations.
“As never before in history, the COB transfers private resources to the confederations. The advantage here is that activation through the COB will also be possible at all games organized by 26 eligible confederations“, La Porta said in his interview with Valor Econômico.
This approach indicates further integration between the Brazilian gaming funding and sports funding models, especially in light of the ongoing expansion of the country’s gambling and lottery industries.
