After a short but heartfelt message of support for stricken Rabbitohs’ forward Jai Arrow, Stuart delivered a 90-second statement about the current state of the game under the new rule interpretations introduced in 2026.
“I’d like to thank the crowd that came here tonight, it’s a tough time slot, but they came to support a very brave and courageous football team tonight—but the better team won,” he said of the match itself.

As for the officiating, the 59-year-old was less magnanimous.

“It’s a very frustrating situation for those who are involved as players and coaches.
“In all the years I’ve been involved in the game as a coach, I’ve never been so confused.”
With a 4-7 record Raiders have slumped to 12th on the NRL ladder after being minor premiers last season, one of several teams that have struggled to adjust to the NRL’s new rule interpretations around ruck infringements.
“I’m just confused at the moment, you can’t have a rule and apply it one week and then not the next,” Stuart reiterated.

“It’s disappointing because I love the game.”
