Following a tsunami of overnight criticism, Sky Sport NZ has issued a public apology to furious Kiwi rugby league fans.

The move came after the broadcaster cut to an ad for a gambling company just as MND-stricken South Sydney star Jai Arrow was walking out for his 100th game for the Rabbitohs against the Roosters in NRL Round 27.

Sky Sport NZ responded to the social media backlash in a statement to NZ news site Stuff explaining the stuff-up was the result of a scheduling error. (No kidding.)

“We apologise to fans who missed part of Jai Arrow’s pre-match celebration during our coverage and share their disappointment,” the statement said.

“The ad break that played over the celebration was the result of a scheduling error and was not deliberate,” it continued.

“We know how important this moment was to fans and we regret that the full celebration wasn’t shown live.”
