Dak Prescott has played 10 seasons under Jerry Jones, but this offseason feels different to him than any previous year. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback pointed to the front office’s urgency this offseason as the reason he feels so confident heading into 2026. He bluntly stated that he hasn’t seen this level of commitment from Jones before.

Speaking with Fort Worth Star-Telegram reporter Nick Harris, the four-time Pro Bowler explained that the major roster changes are why he trusts this version of the Cowboys.

«I can’t give enough credit, honestly, to [Schottenheimer] and the Joneses,» Prescott said. «I don’t think I’d be saying the goals and saying them as confidently and trying to manifest without the things that they’ve done, the decisions they’ve made, the signings they have [made], the extensions they’ve given to certain guys. They understand what we’re trying to do and the urgency in it. I think it’s as much as Jerry ever has in my tenure here.»

The front office’s urgency was a direct response to Dak Prescott’s MVP-level performance last season. He carried the offense, throwing for 4,552 yards, 30 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions. 

But Dallas finished with a 7-9-1 record and missed the playoffs for the second year in a row because the defense fell apart. It allowed a league-worst 30.1 points per game and gave up the third-most yards in the NFL. That defensive collapse ultimately cost coordinator Matt Eberflus his job after just one season. 

The Cowboys’ front office tried to fix the unit during the 2025 season, acquiring Logan Wilson and Quinnen Williams right before the trade deadline. Though those midseason moves fell short, leadership overhauled the unit during the offseason.

They hired 34-year-old former Eagles staffer Christian Parker as defensive coordinator, making him the youngest in franchise history. To build the roster, they re-signed Dallas native Von Miller and locked up Williams with a three-year, $105.9 million extension. 

Then, in the 2026 NFL Draft, they traded up to select Ohio State safety Caleb Downs at No. 11 overall, pairing him with fellow first-round pick Malachi Lawrence.

Prescott’s individual numbers were stellar, but things were much tougher on the field. He constantly faced tight coverage, recording the second-highest tight-window throw rate in the league. 

He did an incredible job managing the offense alongside CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, even while taking 31 sacks behind an inconsistent line. With his confidence high, it finally feels like the front office has matched his pace.
