GWS could have a much younger forward line in 2027.

After Jake Stringer’s departure was all but confirmed this morning, the Giants could also lose Coleman Medalist Jesse Hogan in the off-season.

Last week, SEN’s Sam Edmund reported GWS and Hogan weren’t close enough to agree on a new contract.

“This all centres on a two-year deal,» Edmund said.

«It was going to be one at GWS, but the money was sort of too sizeable, so it was going to be spread over the two.

“The club and player were so close here, they were about $75,000 apart, then they got stuck on incentives and clauses and then it just broke down.

“Then suddenly Jesse Hogan’s injury issues are brought up as a consideration and then all the conjecture over Toby Greene fires up and maybe the Giants thought, ‘Well, maybe here’s a chance to reset’.»

It appears Hogan has two clubs interested, with Collingwood and Gold Coast after him, as reported by SEN.

With Stringer now all but headed for the door and Max Gruzewski re-signed, the Giants appear to be quietly moving towards the next generation.

Forward Jake Riccardi’s multi-year extension is sitting on the table, and GWS are hoping to lock away the 26-year-old, even if Hogan stays.   

Should the Giants lose both Stringer and Hogan, it will represent a significant changing of the guard, with the pair having combined for 50-plus goals in 2026.
