Billy Walters has secured his future with Brisbane, signing a two-year contract extension that will keep the experienced utility at the Broncos until the end of the 2028 season.

The new deal provides Walters with some important security after a difficult period that saw the 32-year-old spend much of this season recovering from a serious knee injury.

Walters suffered an ACL injury during Brisbane’s qualifying final victory over Canberra last year, prematurely ending a season in which he had played an important role in the Broncos’ run to the 2025 premiership.

After a lengthy rehabilitation, he finally returned to the NRL in Round 21 and will now have the opportunity to rebuild his place in the side knowing his future at Red Hill is secure.

Walters enjoyed one of his strongest seasons in 2025 before suffering the injury, scoring seven tries and producing eight try assists while providing plenty of work defensively in the middle.

Walters said remaining in Brisbane meant a great deal to him, particularly after the faith the club had shown throughout his recovery from the ACL injury.

“Brisbane is home for me and I’m really grateful to the Club for the belief they’ve shown in me, especially after the injury I had last year.” Walters said.

Walters originally made his NRL debut with Melbourne in 2019 before spending two seasons at the Wests Tigers, eventually returning home to Brisbane and establishing himself as a regular first grader.

He has since passed 100 appearances for the Broncos and become an experienced member of a squad that has undergone considerable change since last year’s premiership success.

The decision to retain Walters provides Brisbane with some stability at hooker as well as flexibility in the halves following a disappointing premiership defence this season.

With his long-term future now settled, Walters can turn his attention towards finishing 2026 strongly before attempting to help the Broncos bounce back next season.
