The sooner this season is over for the Wests Tigers the better.

After initially intending to wait until after Round 27, the club has confirmed star halfback Adam Doueihi will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery this week, bringing the curtain down on a tumultuous month at Concord.

Doueihi initially suffered the injury scoring a try against the Cronulla in Round 9 and spent two months on the sidelines.

The 28-year-old has battled on since returning in Round 17, but with the Tigers’ finals hopes well and truly over the club and player have decided to bring forward his appointment with the surgeon’s knife.

“New scans on Adam’s shoulder have showed the time has come to have his reconstruction done. This gives him enough time to be ready for the start of the 2027 season,” Wests Tigers Head of High Performance, Peter Moussa said in a club statement on Tuesday.

Making matters worse for the struggling Tigers, the man who may well have replaced Doueihi at halfback, Latu Fainu, has suffered a low-grade hamstring and is out for another 1-2 weeks having only just served a 3-match suspension.

The double hit to their halves stocks could see Jock Madden earn a recall for the Round 25 clash with ladder leaders the Roosters on Sunday afternoon.

It could also potentially see a second career start for 19-year-old Javon Andrews who made his NRL debut in the 56-10 thrashing from the Raiders in Round 21.
