Cronulla has received some welcome news ahead of the NRL finals, with Braydon Trindall expected to return this season despite suffering a dislocated shoulder against Canberra.

The Sharks halfback was forced from Saturday’s clash with the Raiders after injuring his shoulder while scoring Cronulla’s opening try in the fifth minute.
Trindall managed to complete a brilliant kick-and-regather effort to score but immediately appeared in significant discomfort and was unable to return to the field.
The initial sight of Trindall leaving the contest created fears his season could be over, which would have represented a massive blow to a Sharks side fighting to secure a top-four finish and premiership hopes.

However, scans have confirmed the shoulder dislocation will be managed through rehabilitation rather than requiring immediate surgery, leaving the door open for Trindall to return before Cronulla’s season is finished.

The Sharks have not placed an exact date on his comeback, with the club’s medical staff instead working towards getting the 27-year-old back onto the field at some stage this season.

Trindall will miss Cronulla’s upcoming clash with the Gold Coast Titans, leaving Craig Fitzgibbon needing to make a change in the halves for an important game in the Sharks’ finals push.
Young half Niwhai Puru shapes as a likely option to come into the side and partner Nicho Hynes while Trindall works through his rehabilitation.
Cronulla then faces Parramatta and Melbourne across the final two rounds of the regular season, giving Trindall limited time to prove his fitness before the finals begin.
His eventual return would be a significant boost for the Sharks, with the combination of Trindall and Hynes becoming crucial to Cronulla’s attack as the club attempts to secure a top-four finish and enter September at full strength.
