Maryland Gambling Revenue Hits $1.64B as Sports Betting Drives New Growth

The figure, covering the year that ended June 30, is $48 million higher than the previous fiscal year, according to Maryland Lottery and Gaming.

The shift is notable because Maryland’s casinos have historically been the main engine behind gambling-related state revenue. Sports wagering is now becoming a much larger contributor.

Sports Betting Takes a Bigger Share

Sports wagering generated $132.3 million for Maryland in fiscal 2026. That was up sharply from $88.9 million a year earlier.

More than $99.7 million of the sports betting contribution went to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which finances public education initiatives.

Another $32.6 million was directed to the state’s General Fund.

The numbers show how quickly betting has moved from a relatively new gambling product into a meaningful source of public revenue.

Maryland’s broader gambling sector still includes the state lottery, casinos and fantasy sports operators. Together, those businesses produced the $1.637 billion contribution recorded for the latest fiscal year.

The increase over 2025 was $48 million. But the composition of that growth matters. Sports wagering provided a substantial part of the additional money flowing into state programs.

That gives Maryland another growing source of gambling revenue, while also increasing the state’s financial reliance on betting activity.
