The Cowboys arrive at camp with plenty to prove after a frustrating 7-9-1 season, and Schottenheimer has made clear from the jump that a casual approach simply will not fly on his watch.

That message landed hard during training camp. On Day 7, Schottenheimer abruptly halted practice roughly 20 minutes in. He was seen gathering his entire roster and loudly voiced his displeasure after a sluggish, low-energy start to the session per The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

Where Jason Garrett offered constant encouragement and Mike McCarthy leaned on lighter tactics like smashing watermelons, Schottenheimer demands results and makes no effort to hide his frustration when he does not see them.

“Just f- go!” Schottenheimer yelled before sending the players back to individual drills.

Schottenheimer had also disciplined Donovan Ezeiruaku for throwing a punch at Terence Steele during the session. The coach removed Ezeiruaku from practice immediately.

The first year head coach previously emphasized championship goals during a July podcast. He stated his intention to reach the SB next February. His recent camp reaction proves he demands the work ethic required to achieve that lofty standard.

Dak Prescott embraces new coaching energy for next season

Quarterback Dak Prescott has bought in fully on both the head coach and his defensive coordinator. He praised first-year defensive coordinator Christian Parker for the energy his unit has brought to every session.

 «The men that we have and the way that we approach and attack their job, I can’t talk about CP enough and the pride that he carries with his job,» Prescott told reporters.

He described practice as feeling like a road game, adding: «It felt like playing on the road as we were just trying to install our meeting because of how loud and intense and fun that they were having just doing their job. Nothing but good things to say about that unit.»

As for Schottenheimer, the head coach wants to establish a disciplined identity early, and his fiery Day 7 intervention sets the tone for everything that follows. Anything less than a playoff appearance will leave this intensity looking like noise.
