The future of Castleford Tigers head coach Ryan Carr continues to get murkier by the hour.

Barely 24 hours after news broke that the Australian had been stood down by the Super League club, an official statement from the Tigers has only added to the mystery.

“Castleford Tigers RLFC can confirm that Head Coach Ryan Carr will not be in attendance at the Hull KR game this coming Friday,” it read.

“We can confirm that this is due to personal reasons, contrary to the reports on social media… we will not be making any other further comment at this stage.”

Judging by responses to the short and ambiguously worded statement, fans aren’t buying it with suggestions the Australian may have already coached his last game for the club.

Others questioned why, if personal reasons were truly behind Carr’s absence, there was no message of support or well wishing from the club for their senior coach.

“This statement is 12-24 hours too late,” declared one fed-up Tigers fan. 

“If it was personal issues a statement could have been issued last night to nip this in the bud, instead media reporting an emergency board meeting this evening when you then issue a statement… incompetent leadership.”

If Carr does indeed depart the West Yorkshire club, it raises serious questions about the playing futures of a trio of NRL stars with Damien Cook, Mat Feagai and Tyrell Sloan all set to link with the Tigers in 2027 from the St. George Illawarra Dragons.
