LOTBA Joins Buenos Aires Government’s X-BA Digital Interoperability Platform

The Lottery of the City of Buenos Aires (LOTBA) has officially integrated with X-BA, the interoperability platform of the City of Buenos Aires, which is a digital system that will enable the secure exchange of data and services between public institutions. The plan, according to the regulator, will help streamline administrative processes, enhance public sector management, and contribute to the modernization of the sector.

X-BA allows for secure, transparent, and confidential exchange of information across government departments, facilitating efficient information sharing between government departments via integrated digital systems. The platform is part of the city’s overall e-government initiative to enhance the quality of services and institutional collaboration.

Modernization Supports Regulatory Strategy

By participating in X-BA, LOTBA said they’d see better communication between public information systems and optimization of internal processes, as well as better technological integration with other government departments. According to the regulator, the project will help the regulator become more efficient and move forward with its digital transformation.

The transfer follows LOTBA’s further development of its regulatory approach to the games sector in Buenos Aires. Over the last few years, the organisation has been dedicated to increasing the control of online gambling, fighting against illegal operators, raising consumer protection and responsible gambling policies across the city.

Recent Initiatives Target Illegal Gambling and Player Protection

LOTBA has also been actively involved in coordinated investigations with the Specialized Gambling Prosecutor’s Office (FEJA) to uncover and eradicate illegal gambling activities as part of its ongoing agenda to shift the course of the gambling sector in Puerto Plata. In addition, LOTBA has collaborated with the Specialized Gambling Prosecutor’s Office (FEJA) in the identification and dismantling of illegal gambling operators, as part of its broader regulatory agenda to turn the tables on the gambling industry in Puerto Plata. The regulator has also conducted public awareness campaigns such as ‘Talking Is Winning’ to encourage responsible gambling and to try to deter minors from using illegal betting sites.

Further activities encompass the development of a cooperation agreement with the Council of the Judiciary to create guidelines for education for minors, families, and educators on the dangers of online betting. LOTBA has also established training for those who are facing charges of illegal gambling and influencers who have been accused of promoting an illegal betting site.

Collaboration Reflects Broader Digital Transformation

One of LOTBA’s biggest recent enforcement efforts was a complaint against the operation of Polymarket in Argentina. The investigation finally led to the first nationwide ban in Latin America of a prediction market platform, which further underscored the regulator’s efforts in combating illegal gambling operations.

The signing ceremony of the X-BA was attended by General Secretary Eva Del Río Frontera, Information Technology and Modernization Manager Sebastián Vivot, and Deputy IT Manager Julio Mormandi of LOTBA. The collaboration of the initiative between regulator and local government was underlined by the presence of Raúl Piola, Secretary of Innovation and Digital Transformation of the Buenos Aires City Government, who attended on the City’s behalf at the digital transformation office.
