Cooper was absent from supporting his team-mates and a team closing meeting on the last day of the swimming program, with SMH reporting the 22-year-old was drinking out in Glasgow and was also seen with alcohol at Australia’s team headquarters.
Cooper did not break any alcohol rules or curfews with his actions, with Australian athletes allowed to drink after their competition has finished.
But Australian swimmers are required to support their team-mates even if their events are completed, with Cooper’s actions surprising his colleagues considering his role in the leadership group.

“Isaac did not attend the final night of the swimming competition or final team meeting in Glasgow, which is in conflict with team expectations,” Swimming Australia said in a statement.
“Isaac has since voluntarily stood down from the team’s athlete leadership group.
“Swimming Australia will not be making any further comment on this issue. We look forward to watching Isaac compete at (this month’s) Pan Pacific Championships.”
