Netflix’s broadcast team for the NFL season is starting to take shape.

The streaming service is adding Nick Foles and Clay Matthews to its coverage team, which will debut with the Los Angeles Rams vs. the San Francisco 49ers in Australia. Foles and Matthews will make their Netflix debuts during the NFL’s first game in Australia in Week 1.

Netflix has gotten more into sports in recent years, broadcasting NFL and MLB games in that span. As Netflix aims to become a bigger name in sports broadcasts, it will want it’s own group of broadcasters to go along with it.

Here’s a look at Netflix’s full broadcast team.

  • Michael Irvin
  • Nick Foles
  • Clay Matthews

Netflix is bringing in a cast of former players for its NFL broadcasts this year. Michael Irvin is the biggest name in the group, as the former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver has plenty of media experience from his days with NFL Network and certainly provides energy during broadcasts.

Irvin is joined by two more recent NFL players in Nick Foles and Clay Matthews, both of whom have limited media experience. Foles is best known for leading the Philadelphia Eagles to their first Super Bowl victory and is the latest quarterback to join the media ranks. Matthews, meanwhile, collected 91.5 sacks during his career, primarily with the Green Bay Packers, and could one day earn a spot in the Hall of Fame.

Elle Duncan will begin her first NFL season with Netflix as the studio host after serving in that same role for the streaming service’s other football broadcasts this year.

When did Nick Foles retire?

Foles last played in the NFL for the Indianapolis Colts in the 2022 season, and he retired not long after that season ended. The journeyman quarterback played for six teams in his career but is most known for his two stints with the Eagles, the second of which resulted in a Super Bowl victory.

Since retiring, Foles has bounced around in the media. Last year, he started hosting a podcast with former tight end Evan Moore titled «The SZN Podcast,» which focused on broader NFL news but will tighten it’s scope more towards Eagles news this year.

When did Clay Matthews retire?

Matthews last played for the Los Angeles Rams in the 2019 season, but he didn’t officially retire until 2022. He spent 10 of his 11 seasons with the Packers, and he was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame during the 2024 season.

Matthews hasn’t participated much in the media, so joining Netflix marks the beginning of a new career for the former pass rusher.
