iGaming Ontario Reports $9.46B June Handle, Up 30% Year-on-Year

Ontario’s regulated online gambling market continued to show strong momentum in June, with iGaming Ontario reporting a handle of $9.46 billion.

That figure marked a 30.3% increase compared to the $7.26 billion recorded in June 2025. It was also the fifth-highest monthly total since the province opened its regulated market, just shy of the all-time record of $9.59 billion set in March 2026.

Gross gaming revenue followed the same trend, climbing 30.6% year-on-year to $400.6 million. While both handle and revenue dipped slightly from May, operators have now crossed the $400 million revenue mark in six of the last eight months, underscoring the sector’s consistency.

The gains translated directly into government earnings. With Ontario’s 80-20 revenue split, the province collected $80 million in tax revenue for June alone, pushing total tax receipts from regulated iGaming past $2.5 billion since the market’s launch in April 2022.

Player activity also reached new highs, with more than 1.3 million active accounts in June, the largest number since January. On average, each account generated $304 in operator revenue, highlighting the depth of customer engagement.

World Cup sees record online betting numbers in Ontario

Ontario’s online gambling market saw a surge in June as the FIFA World Cup kicked off, driving record soccer betting across several platforms.

Sportsbooks handled $1.03 billion in wagers, marking the fourth time in six months that sports betting crossed the billion-dollar mark. That total was 6% higher than May and 34.5% above June 2025, when no World Cup boost was present.

Operators earned $78.6 million from sports betting, accounting for 20% of the province’s total handle, and that figure was up 34.4% year-on-year.

The $8.30 billion casino handle was the third-highest ever recorded in Ontario’s regulated market, trailing only March and May 2026. Revenue from online casinos reached $316.8 million, representing 79% of total gross gaming revenue. Although slightly lower than May’s record $326.4 million, it was still 30.4% higher than the same month last year.

Online poker continued to play a minor role, contributing just 1% of both handle and revenue. Overall, Ontario’s 48 licensed operators running 82 sites benefited from a month where both casino and sports betting activity hit historic levels.
