Richest ever Rooster? Tricolours preparing ‘lifetime’ mega deal for Sam Walker

Now the Sydney Roosters are set to break new ground, even by their own standards, as they seek to lock up off-contract star Sam Walker for the next decade.

Still just 24 and yet to enter the prime of his career, Walker has been a revelation at all levels of the game in 2026 and made an eye-catching State of Origin debut for Queensland in the absence of the injured Tom Dearden.

The future looks bright and with rival clubs ready to swoop should the opportunity present itself after November 1, there are reports the Tricolours are about to make Walker the highest-paid player in the club’s storied 116-year history.

Code Sports says the England-born halfback could be offered a whopping 10-year deal in the vicinity of $14 million that would make Walker one of the highest players in the NRL alongside Nathan Cleary, Dylan Brown and Mitch Moses. 

It would also dwarf the $1.1 million-a-season deal held by the Roosters’ current highest paid player, captain James Tedesco.

If the deal comes to fruition as expected it mirrors a similar ‘lifetime’ deal offered to Walker’s 37-year-old Roosters halves partner Daly Cherry-Evans by Manly back in 2015.
