Hugo Savala extends with Sydney Roosters for two years, locked in until 2028

The Sydney Roosters have locked in another young star with confirmation Hugo Savala has signed a two-year contract extension with the Tricolours until at least the end of the 2028 NRL season.

It comes as the club prepares to lock in a monster 10-year deal with No.7 Sam Walker.

Scoffing at suggestions he may become impatient stuck behind veteran half Daly Cherry-Evans, 24-year-old Savala said extending his time with the Roosters was an easy decision.

“The Sydney Roosters mean a lot to me. I came through the junior reps here and I’ve always dreamed of making a career at this club, so I’m really happy to be staying,” Savala said in a statement.

“We’ve got such a close group and I love being part of it. Everyone genuinely wants the best for each other, and I just want to keep improving, keep learning from Robbo and the senior players around me, and do whatever the team needs. That’s always been my mindset and it won’t change,” he added.

Sydney Roosters Head of Recruitment Joel Carbone was understandably delighted to secure Savala’s signature for a further two seasons.

“Hugo is exactly the type of player and person we want to build our future around,” Carbone said.

“He’s worked incredibly hard for every opportunity he’s earned and continues to improve every season.

“His versatility is a real strength, but it’s his professionalism, character and willingness to put the team first that really stand out.”

Savala has spent the bulk of the 2026 season in the centres.
