Former Chelsea boss Maresca now gets the chance to make his mark on a young squad that has experienced a high level of player turnover over the past 18 months.

The first chance to do this will come duirng City’s 2026 preseason schedule.

Where are Man City playing preseason games?

The first match of City’s pre-season is against their 2023 Champions League final opponents, Inter Milan, in Hong Kong.

The Premier League team then head to South Korean capital Seoul for matches versus a K-League All Stars XI and Atletico Madrid.

A scheduling clash with global pop superstar The Weeknd means the Community Shield will take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

When do World Cup players return to Man City?

City had 17 players at the World Cup, more than any other Premier League team. 

All players who exited at the group stage and the Round of 32 are back in training with Maresca’s squad. 

Portugal duo Ruben Dias and Matheus Nunes, Belgium winger Jeremy Doku and Egypt forward Omar Marmoush all bowed out in the Round of 16 and are expected to return in time for the pre-season tour.

Players who went deep into the tournament, including Erling Haaland and record signing Elliot Anderson, are due back in training prior to the Community Shield.

World Cup-winning captain Rodri will not be present as he is set to undergo back surgery in Spain. The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid since being named as player of the tournament in North America.

When is Man City’s first Premier League game of 2026/27?

City’s campaign begins at home to Bournemouth on August 23, another team under new management. The kickoff for that Sunday game is 2 p.m. local time (9 a.m. ET).

They then have four more league matches, including the first Manchester derby of the season against United at Old Trafford, before the first international break of the new campaign begins on September 21.
