The veteran halfback joined the Roosters ahead of the 2026 campaign after ending his long association with Manly, signing what was initially viewed as a one-year deal to provide experience and leadership to the club’s young spine.
However, reports now indicate the option in Cherry-Evans’ contract for 2027 has been activated, ensuring he will continue playing into a 17th NRL season.
The decision comes after the 37-year-old produced another consistent campaign, proving he still has plenty to offer despite expectations this season would be his last before transitioning into coaching.

An extra season also keeps alive Cherry-Evans’ pursuit of the prestigious 400-game milestone which would be an historic achievement on rugby league.
Having already amassed 369 first-grade appearances, the veteran could move within touching distance of the landmark by the end of this season before potentially reaching it during the 2027 campaign if fitness permits.
