Kevin Durant explains why Philadelphia fans ‘fear you a little bit’

The entire league is watching as LeBron James’ free agency continues to drag on. Even at 41 years old, he just finished a season averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists to help push the Los Angeles Lakers into the playoffs.

But everything changed on June 30 when his agent Rich Paul announced James wouldn’t be returning to Los Angeles. Now, he’s heading into his 24th NBA season and will turn 42 by the end of the year.

That incredible longevity is exactly why his friend Kevin Durant didn’t hesitate to praise his longtime rival during an interview with John Clark at Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game. When asked where the four-time MVP might land, Durant didn’t dance around the question. 

He admitted he has no inside scoop, saying, «I have no clue. Wherever he goes, he’s going to ball out.”

Playing at such a competitive level past age 40 is incredible, especially as James searches for one final run at a championship. His advancing age has raised significant eyebrows across the league in recent times. But Durant clearly has complete faith in his longtime friend.

He claimed, «He’s going to prove he has a lot left in the tank at 42 years old. Any team is going to be better because of him.»

KD knows exactly what it takes to play at a high level late in a career. At 37, the Rockets forward just crushed his first year in Houston, averaging 26 points on 52% shooting, making his 16th All-Star team and landing All-NBA honors.

As for where James signs, Durant is just as in the dark as everyone else. ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that James has narrowed his list to five teams, though it looks like a three-way race between the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers. Charania also noted Bron just wants a real shot at another championship rather than a big paycheck this time. 

Until he makes his choice, everyone will be waiting eagerly to see where he lands. But KD believes that wherever his friend signs, he will make that team better than ever.
